My WordPress blog got hacked, but it’s fixed now… thanks to my cousin B!

Also, thanks to Eric Nakagawa who was my shoulder to freak out on.

Basically what happened was that I noticed that a string was appended to the URLs of my individual posts on WordPress:

BAH! It breaks the links!

Anyway, it was my own bad for not being totally up to date with the latest version of WordPress. Eric listened as I freaked out about manually backing up my blog and updating to version 2.84 (since the auto-update wasn’t working for me).

Then my cousin B went into my database and cleaned out the yuck code, per the instructions I found at

And then, hocus pocus, my blog was all good again! Thanks for the help, guys!

New rules for Joz’s blog

1) No more daily Twitter updates on the blog. If you want to follow me on @jozjozjoz on Twitter and get “up to the minute” Joz-errific news, then have at it. Instead of a daily update on the blog, once a week, Twitter Tools will make a massive post of my Tweets for the week which you can ignore at your leisure. (Sorry if there is wonkiness this week when things change over)

2) No more pretending that Tweeting is the same as blogging. I started this blog in 2003 (six freakin’ years ago before most people had even HEARD of the word blogging!) so that I would write a little every day. I’ve taken breaks here and there, but the last few months of the Twitter posts taking over my blog is ridiculous. No wonder no one visits anymore. There’s nothing here but Twitter shit. Sorry ’bout that.

3) Writing on other sites… may be republished here.
That means, you may see crossposts from:
Flickr (ok, I don’t usually write very much here)
Metblogs LA/
and other sites. And they may be out of context, but it’ll all be stuffs written by me.

If you like what you’re seeing, PLEASE COMMENT SO I KNOW I HAVEN’T DRIVEN YOU AWAY!
Also, if there is anything that you see in the Tweets that you want me to write more about, let me know.

Sound fair?

Yes, that is my oogly little dog at the top of my blog again!

Did you miss him?

I sure did.

If you have been reading jozjozjoz since the beginning, then that image should look familiar to you. It’s a funny picture of my dog Chu-Chu, who passed away in January 2003, a few weeks before I decided to start blogging. I’m not sure I ever explained that publicly, but it’s true.

Originally, I thought I was going to write about my dog to get over my grief of losing him. I quickly came to realize that I didn’t feel comfortable blogging about things like that and instead focused on the “insignifica” of my life.

That’s right, insignifica. Do you remember that, too? Before I moved to my own .com, my good friend Mike Doss was kind enough to host me on his site at, unwittingly creating the blogging monster I have now become.

Anyway, that was a little jozjozjoz blog history for you.

Thanks again to The Other Yoshi who has put another blog design for us to try. I’m glad to see my old banner up (originally designed by Gingersmack), but I can already tell that there is some tweaking I’m going to want done to this layout. Is there anything that you want to see? Features missing? (I’m thinking I still want a third column/extra sidebar, along with a bunch of stuff that seems to be missing.)

It’s really clear to me that even though this is my blog, it would never have been able to manage and maintain it without the help of the people above, plus friends like Michael who has helped me through a number of upgrades, server moves and massive housekeeping chores. My sincerest gratitudes for all these people who have helped me over the years out of the kindness of their hearts!

And of course, it wouldn’t have been possible without all my friends who visit and read and comment and basically keep it fun for me to keep doing this, thank you, too!

Yoshis are the bestests

So everyone knows how awesome my yoshi is, but there is another yoshi out there who rocks my world: the other yoshi

Everywhere else, the other yoshi is known just as “yoshi” but just for me at, he is “the other yoshi”

You can find the other yoshi at his blog at

Oh, back to the point of this post (which was NOT to see how many times I could use the word “yoshi” in one post)…

Today, the other yoshi fixed a long-standing thing on my blogfix wishlist!

Find a way to import the “Lost blog archives from January 2003 through mid-August 2003.”

Using an old MT (Movable Type backup), the other yoshi was able to import almost 8 months worth of missing entries to my current WordPress blog. Yay! Now my blog is all “living” in one place!

Thanks, the other yoshi!

No, I didn’t quit.

I’ve just been insanely busy.

A full day of work in OC yesterday + a commute back to LA + homework etc + two hours of sleep last night + a full day at work (no lunch) + 4 hours of class = messing up the venue of the place I was supposed join kent nichols for drinks to celebrate his birthday.

Aside from not reading one of the cases (unintentional! I didn’t know it was assigned), something was bound to give.

Oh and my 5 year blogiversary came and went and I totally forgot to mention it.

I don’t know if I should my first day should count as January 14, 2003 (my first blogpost at that didn’t work) or January 29, 2003 (my first post at the blog hosted at

Either way, it’s definitely been 5 years.

I blame this guy and this guy for this. Thanks, guys!

Ha! Fooled it!

What's My Blog Rated? From Mingle2 - Online Dating

Mingle2Online Dating

This thing says my blog is rated G! That’s because all the profanity is in the archives! Ha!

It did notice that I had two drug references and one instance of “bitch” on the page, though. I guess that still counts as G rated…

I won’t be doing this all the time…

I have been posting like mad on Not only do I not want to be accused of not posting enough, I keep happening upon LA related things I want to post about.

What’s going on at Roscoe’s?

Underground pipe dreams

In case you’re wondering, I don’t have an obsession with Roscoe’s. Things just keep happening there.

And I’m going to make an effort to write more at

This is the only post I made that was exclusive to 8A:

Grow up, Michelle Wie!

The other posts (McPoopy and McYummy or McYucky?) were x-posted here. But I guess they should count because they were intended for 8Asians.

This was not written when you think it was written.

This is actually being written at 11:54pm on Friday night, June 1, 2006.

But I won’t really be around this weekend, so I am writing ahead and scheduling this go to up later.

Earlier this week, a monumental event happened, quite possibly the pinnacle of my blogging career to date: my cousin Nina chose me to be featured on her blog in her popular Focus on a Friend series.

But for me, she changed it to Focus on a Cousin.

I feel so special!

Thanks, Nina!

Another social networking thingy

Here’s the link to my profile on I’m in like with you.

I can’t say that I’m going to hang out here, but of course, I had to join. And the link is on “Stalk Joz” in my sidebar.

As if I’m not on enough social networking thingies…

I joined Jaiku about a month ago and started adding feeds to it.

There’s a no cross-posting rule on…

…so sometimes I write about stuff I’d normally put on my personal blog and put it there instead.

Yesterday, I wrote a post about the building across the street from my office building being transformed into a giant Transformers ad on I’m really excited about this and even got some scoop about what it’s going to be like when it’s done.

I even posted a picture I took of one side of the building. See?

The Transformers Building is coming!

Anyway, Markland told me that my post got linked by defamer and they used my photo, too!

Short Ends: Billboardtron Transforms From Former Office Building Into Giant Movie Ad
· The shell of the 360 building at Sunset & Vine is getting a second skin, courtesy of Transformers. It’s more than meets the eye! Just like a building that was once insulated with asbestos!

Today, there was a major windstorm in LA… lo & behold the Transformers wrap on one side of the building was ripped off by the wind. Defamer posted pictures before I was able to get to it, but in this post they linked to an old post I’d written about that same building (when it caught on fire a couple of years ago).

Anyhoo, I went this afternoon to try and see if I could find a remnant of the billboard, but the smaller pieces had already blown away and been picked up.

The domain is being auctioned off…

…and I can’t afford it.

It’s being sold on and right now, it’s up to $5k.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on it for almost 10 years now. I should it bought it way back in 1997 when I looked it up and it was still available. Ahh, hindsight.

Sigh. If I’d known it was going to go on sale, I’d have thought about a fundraising campaign.

When I had made an offer on this domain a few months ago, my offer got rejected and they came back with a counter offer of SEVENTEEN THOUSAND dollars!!! What-e-ver. I said, “No you pricing gouging dickwads,” (ok, I actually just said “no”) and went on my merry way.

I got a notice yesterday that this public auction was going on for and I guess anyone who made a previous offer got notice about it. Well lookie here. At $5k, the reserve has been met. Guess no one could pony up $17k for the domain.

Sigh. I still want though.

Post made to today

I am embarrassed that I spent well over an hour researching writing it, formatting, it and posting it. I can be such a nerd.

It’s #16 of the Top L.A. Legends series: Jamie Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite (aka Jamie Lee Curtis has a teeny weenie)

In other news, my browser history for the last two days looks like I am a Jamie Lee Curtis stalker who has a deep curiosity for herms, merms, and ferms.

I swear it ain’t so.

If it has Jeremy Hermann’s stamp of approval…

…it has mine, too! I was catching up on some blog reading and caught this plug on Jeremy Hermann’s site about Agloco (A GLObal COmmunity).

Help Build AGLOCO – Beta Testers Wanted!

Hey You!

This note is mainly to offer you a chance to help build AGLOCO – it is a Member-owned Internet Economic community.

Here is why I would like you to help. First – it is free. Second – it is quick and easy to join. Third – AGLOCO’s purpose is to get its members their share of the money generated on the Internet (i.e. you make money). And lastly – if you help build the AGLOCO network you can make much more.

Here is a link to sign up (it automatically records me as referring you with my ID BBBQ4782)*

AGLOCO works with a toolbar type software called a Viewbar. Privacy is very strict so no spyware, popups or spam.

As to how much money you can make, there is a study which says the average user should get $5 to $15 a month. (But less at the beginning.) Click here to read the report.

How much can you make helping to build the network? The Simmons Report predicts $30 per referral. I have 200, but a friend of mine RZ McCall has over 8,000. He has a great blog site.

AGLOCO is in their beta phase which is the best time to help them build out the network. So please join now and help build the network. Have questions? Their website has all the details so go there or please ask me.

If you’ve been with for a while, you know that I resisted putting ads and such on my blog, even in the “heyday” of my this site when it was getting crazy traffic. Well, I finally buckled this year and decided to put a few ads here and there.

I figured it couldn’t hurt to hit up my friends to join AGLOCO under me, too!

* is jozjozjoz’s referral link, not Jeremy’s

“This is not the comedy we blog I intended to do when the week I began.”

Last week I was 90% done with a post last week and I accidentally closed the window I was typing in. Ooops. That’s another entry lost in the ether.

I did make the notes (in bold) that it was about the about the following topics:

  • Pig uterus. (Done: 10/17/06. I think I was going to write that I was surprised that only a couple of people commented about the fact that I’d eaten pig uterus and admitted to it.)
  • Miss my blog. (I think I had something to say about how I missed having my old Movable Type blog that I knew how to configure and work better. Also probably wanted to say something about how I missed the old “happy, fun” jozjozjoz… both the blog and person.)
  • Sleep first, stay up all night. (I think this was a theory that if I could sleep for a couple of hours after getting home from work, that I could stay up all night and get a lot more done. Of course, this would kill any possibility of me having any kind of social life, so maybe this one is not such a hot idea.)
  • Will get to see my old friends Wing Lam and eD! of Wahoo’s Fish Taco at the AAJA Trivia Bowl this Friday night. Yay! (Done: 10/20/06)
  • Heroes. (I think I meant to say that Heroes is my newest favorite TV show, even though it is a little too freaky for me and I’m not allowed to watch it by myself. I also might have mentioned that I geeked out and joined 9th Wonders, The Unofficial Official Fan Site of Heroes because I couldn’t find anyone who I could chat with about the show.)
  • Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. (I think I said something about this being my next favorite new TV show of the season. I enjoy the West Wing-esque pacing and dialogue ala Aaron Sorkin, but I am pushed over the edge by the fact that the fictional NBS TV network is located in my actual place of work. Really! And the fictional Studio 60, which is based on the Palladium, is really across the street from my office. It is kind of weird to have watched some scenes on primetime TV and realize that they are supposed to be taking place right now in the building I work in right now. They did a scene in the second episode which was actually shot in our building (elevator lobby) a few months ago. [Incidentally, the Jordan McDeere character turned and walked into an imaginary elevator that doesn’t actually exist.] I remember the day because when they were shooting these scenes (in the middle of the day on a workday), they had PAs controlling every elevator car to make sure no one would accidently exit the elevator and ruin a scene. Consequently, they temporarily halted 4 of the 6 elevator cars and only let the other two run intermittently. Needless to say, there were numerous lines on each floor for people waiting to get on the elevators in our 20+ floor building. On the bright side, our building managers used some of the thousands of dollars they must have received to buy everyone in the building some pizza the next day. Too bad they didn’t order enough pizza and by the time my floor got there, they were out. Doh.)
  • Ok, so I pretty much reconstructed a post I meant to write last week. Maybe next week I will write about what I intended to write this week.

Good thing I am still up…

Mom just called from Taiwan. She’s been there for about 24 hours and has done a lot already.

It’s 3:20am. She thought it was 3:20 in the afternoon here, for some reason. At least she didn’t wake me up from deep sleep. I’m pretty grumpy when that happens.

She got my Dad’s old cell phone # working again, so now she’s reachable.

Good to hear her voice. I miss her already.

UPDATE: I just added a Taiwan clock to the bottom of my blog. Now I’ll be able to tell what time it is so I know if it’s ok to call Mom.

Things to do if you get bored.

Since I’m not doing the best job of keeping my blog remotely interesting these days, I thought I’d direct you to a few new features of the NEW AND IMPROVED JOZJOZJOZ.COM SITE!!!

  • I have an about page now. Kind of.
  • jozjozjoz listens. Don’t think that I don’t listen to the many suggestions I get on how to unsuck my sucky site; here is my (ever-growing) list of wishes of things to fix on my blog.
  • New ways to Stalk Joz!* If you look on the sidebar, there is a new list of links of other places you can find jozjozjoz online.
  • So let me know if you check any/all of these things out and what you think. Also, if you learned anything new about me from stalking me*, what was it?

*Please do not REALLY stalk jozjozjoz. The word “stalk” in this case is used in a tongue-in-cheek manner to describe the task of following jozjozjoz’s exploits on the intarweb. This is not an invitation to stalk jozjozjoz in real life. Real life stalkers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And stalkers will be subject to a can of Joz Whup Ass (believe me, this is not pretty). And also stalkers will be expected to endure some Old Man to Bite NOT-SO-Tenderly. You have been warned.

I’m back! (And BOY do I need a beer!)

That’s right. After a bit more than 2 months in exile, some of it at my blogspot space, is back… as promised, albeit rather delayed.

Major major major thank you’s are due to a number of folks, but especially my most special-est, wonderful-est monkey, Michael of RockMeGently, who basically did EVERYTHING to get this blog set up for me. From backing up my blog archives since January 2003 to installing WordPress, to importing all my entries (twice), plus countless other steps in between.

    Joz hides behind a beer

Photo taken in April 2006 at il Birrificio di Como. Como, Italy.

Now that I’m finally back, I can’t promise any scintillating or titillating news, but I will do my best to keep up and not be MIA. Keep in mind I have a new host, a new blogging software, and limited brain capacity to learn things as quickly as I used to… so apologies in advance for any wonkiness!

In the meantime, I will take requests… is there anything in particular you want to hear about?

Trying to get the “real” site up…

    Thanks for your patience!
