House of Flying Daggers

It's no Hero or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but House of Flying Daggers was definitely worth the two hours of my butt falling asleep at the Cinerama Dome at the Arclight last night.

This movie was released in China more than a year ago under the title Shi mian mai fu (literal English translation meaning "Ambush from Ten Sides" which is a much better title, but whatever). It was also released in Japan under the title "Lovers."

I'm not a big fan of Zhang Ziyi, but I am totally into Takeshi Kaneshiro, the Japanese-Taiwanese actor who plays Jin in this movie. I went to the Sony Classics House of Flying Daggers website to grab some stills of him. He reminds me of an Asian Legolas with the bow & arrows and long hair. Hee.

Oh, and Strange Celebrity Sighting #2 for yesterday was standing next to Kelly Clarkson and her friends at the Guest Services desk at the Arclight while they were getting their tickets before heading over to Amoeba Music. She was not made-up & almost unrecognizable. In fact, if her friends hadn't been acting weird, I'd have not even noticed her.

If you're wondering what Strange Celebrity Sighting #1 was yesterday, it was seeing Daniel Owens (stylist from Jonathan Salon from Blow Out) at the bar at Eat Well in Silverlake as we were leaving from a blogging.la brunch. I was thrilled to meet Nanette and her beau, as well as Tammara from the new wave of folks at b.la. And always, it was much fun to see Jay Bushman, Will Campbell (& Susan) at brunch. It was a great way to start off a busy Sunday.

I just watched Hero last night. I thought the effects were great, the cinematography was excellent and the acting was first-rate, the plot was good too, so how come I really didn't like it? Help me out, what did you think of it?

I'd like to see Daggers when it comes out on DVD. The best thing about Hero for me was Zhang Ziyi.

What? An Asian Legolas? I have competition? I'm pretty good with my bow and arrows from 40 yards out. :)

And so what if I have my head shaved? I can always put on my fabulous blond wig...

Hey, he kind of does look like Legolas.

Hm, I've got the long hair for an Asian Legolas.

Speaking of which, do they speak *Asian* in this film?! ^_^

hey- it's the artist formally known by my initials JR, but I'm gonna comment as fashmagslag from now on, just so ya know.

Takeshi is sooo fucking hot! I would love to spend a weekend with him in my apartment or a hotel room with a bottle of olive oil for Greco/Roman wrestling ^_^

first of all, Takeshi is freakin gorgeous and I'm totally in love with him. second of all, THAT's MY BLOND WIG. not that i'm against sharing.

i saw House Of Flying Daggers on Sat after spending a day at GenCon in Anaheim. really liked it, found some parts of it a bit slow, but loved the fighting scenes. had NO idea that this was the same movie as "Lovers"...a movie that i was jonesing for.

excuse me...i'm going back to my shrine to Takeshi now...

you guys are too much. I think GenCon did something to your brains ;). And, I think Takeshi Kaneshiro AND Zhang Ziyi are completely hot. They are both on my list.
