Dear Pinky #2,
I am sorry I thought of amputating you this week in the midst of my turmoil. You were injured and just because no one else was there for me, I shouldn’t have turned around and thought for even one second that you are in any way superfluous. Now that we are on the road to recovery things are once again in perspective. I am so sorry...
...I am trying to remember all of the good times we have had together, and not many come to mind to be honest. That, I think, is just a result of how dedicated and loyal you have always been, your track record has now come to light in this near tragedy. Okay, here is a memory… Remember the time we were all pretending to be dainty and British, and we drank tea? You kept character perfectly, perking up, and being the only one of my fingers to stretch out, making us recognizable as the dandies we were pretending to be. And you and our friend the index finger also have helped me rock out at many a concert, when both of you stand tall, while the others lay low, you make those cute little devil horns that let every one in the band know just how hard they are rocking. Also I think you may contribute to adding a little bit of speed to me when I am swimming, like the time we had to swim away from that shark; who knows if I would have made it with out you? You have been a true friend, and I apologize again for having any thoughts against you this last week.
Sincerely yours,
professoreric
p.s. thanks to everyone else who has given me advice over the week and shared there empathy and stories of how much our f*#king health care system sucks. I eventually, after being transferred from one clinic to another hospital to many more, to eventually a really nice orthopedic specialist. He took x-rays and eventually showed me where my bone was chipped and the ligament was torn, and how to splint and tape it properly. it should have cost me as much as a roundtrip ticket to Paris, France, where i could have gotten free health care anyway, but instead i got a major discount 'cause he was so understanding. so all seems to be decent. i have to go back for a follow up on my birthday in 3 weeks but that seems to be the temporary end of this story arc. It was all very dramatic I think I might right an article about it for some paper. Anyone have any interesting contacts? Let me know.
Posted by professoreric at May 6, 2004 12:13 PMI too thought about amputating your pinky. As a reminder that you absolutely should not do what you did that got your finger in trouble in the first place. But your mother told me it was mean.
