I enjoy being a girl!

It just occurred to me as a typed that headline that a lot of people would have no idea I’m making a reference to an old Rodgers and Hammerstein song “I Enjoy Being a Girl” from the Flower Drum Song…

Do you know that song? Ever heard of/seen the Flower Drum Song? Hell, do you know who Rodgers and Hammerstein are?

Anyway, back to the point.

Friday was a pretty nice day. I didn’t have any pressing deadlines at work, so I had some more time to spend on learning and training myself in some stuff I’m supposed to get up to speed on.

After the $15 parking debacle the other day, I asked my company if they could make sure I had parking access turned on, but it takes a couple of days to activate it, so I was still parking in visitor parking. I did, however, get parking validation this time, but as I tried to leave the lot, the machine said that I didn’t have enough validation!

For some reason, it was telling me I owed $30 in parking and after my $15 validation, I still owed another $15!

WTF!

I tried to cancel the transaction, but nothing happened and I remained stuck behind the gate when I saw a parking attendant heading my way. Lucky for me, this was a different parking attendant from the one I sweet talked into letting me out the other day, so I told him what had happened and asked if he could help me.

He tried to see what the machine was doing (it still kept asking for $15) and I could tell he was about to ask me for $15 so I said, “Sir, could you please just let me out? I would really appreciate it.”

I could see the indecision in his eyes so then I flashed the sweetest possible smile I could at him and he semi-reluctantly said, “Well, ok,” and headed over to lift the gate for me.

I waved and said thank you as I drove away, but as I said to my friend who was on the phone with me at the time, “Being a girl rocks.”

I know that if I had been some guy, he’d have asked me for $30 before letting me out. It may not be fair, but you know it’s true.

I am such a dork most of the time, so stuff like this rarely works in my favor. Rather than using my “feminine wiles” (what are those?! Do I have any?!?!), I usually get by via silliness or cracking jokes.

I may not have a face that can launch a thousand ships, but it’s kind of nice to know I’ve got a smile that can lift parking gates.
