I've been in the corporate world for close to 14 years, and the last company I was with threw phenomenal potlucks. Meaning everyone who signed up brought exactly what they said they would bring. And rarely would there be ANYthing store-bought. Often we would have so much food leftover in our department, when people from other departments stopped by, we practically begged them to take food with them! I feel truly lucky right now! There are usually 1 or 2 really good, homemade dishes, but not in enough quantity, so if you aren't among the first 10 in line-forget it. One group "forgets" to bring the stuff they signed up for and order gross pizza or run to Vons and pick up a bunch of fried chicken. But, we always have PLENTY of desserts! Isn't this how ALL company potlucks go anymore? I haven't worked in the corporate world for 15 years and this sounds pretty much JUST like our pot lucks. :) A small exception... being from the midwest our food choices were slightly different (we had a couple of "hotdishes") and we didn't have any consultants from India back then.
