They speak the Chinese national language (Mandarin) and use Traditional Chinese to read and write. They look 'basically' the same as anyone else from southern China (although maybe a bit taller?) and their architecture is very similar. I think the differences are more political than anything which makes it harder for us 'white folks' to understand. However, that photo credit is inexcusable for a source like Time. I remember someone telling me that Taiwan was the same as China. I think I must have did a super double take because he jumped. I was like "Huh? You're kidding me right?" People don't know. They just don't. But I won't go into that because holy cow I would totally take up too much space! They’ll never get it!
