Don’t what a gift horse in the what?

So Bossguy asked me when I wanted my christmas present.

I go: “Whenever.”

Then he goes, “What’s wrong? You didn’t think you were getting a present?”

I go, “I dunno. Should I be scared?”

He goes, “No. Why? Are you scared?” And then he looks at me and goes, “Hey wait, you look scared!”

I go, “Did your girlfriend help you pick out the present?”

He goes, “Hey! Screw you! Maybe you don’t get a present after all!”

But he didn’t answer me. I don’t know if he picked it out himself or if his girlfriend helped.

Don’t be surprised if Joz gets lumps of coal for being rude to the Bossguy.

I totally need another weekend.

Aside for having an awesome Friday night and playing Saints & Sinners Bingo Saturday morning (which I regret doing), I have had stuff to do all weekend.

Saturday afternoon, my mom came over because we needed to attend a funeral service for a family member at the Pierce Brothers Cemetary in Westwood (that’s the same one where the graves of Marilyn Monroe and lots of other famous people are at). Although I wasn’t close to the woman who passed away (a somewhat distantly related aunt), I was moved to tears on several occasions because she certainly died at too young an age… she was only about 40 and left behind a husband and 3 kids (ages 3, 7, and 9). When her son walked out of the service in tears, no one could keep their own tears in check.

After getting home from the service, mom left so Yoshi was nice enough to accompany me to The Grove to pick up some (company) gifts I had purchased at Coach. Yoshi is done with holiday shopping… so it was a great act of kindness to approach a mall on a Saturday night in December. Amazingly, we found a parking space relatively quickly (even though it took us forever to get IN the parking structure because people were driving stupidly). We got everything we needed at Coach and headed over to Cost Plus to pick up some candy and gift tags, etc. We also picked up a couple of other gifts but it really felt like we were there forever. Oh yeah, since I had spent over $600 at Coach, we were eligible for free parking at the Concierge. Too bad the guy behind the counter was too busy flirting with the girl behind the counter. He literally left us waiting at the counter after only partially taking care of us… the other guy behind the counter noticed us still standing there and took care of us. Sheesh.

Anyway, getting out of the parking lot was a giant nightmare and we came home feeling like we’d been out for 10 hours when we’d probably only been gone for about 2. I came home and blogged a bit, but didn’t do much else before crashing for the night.

I practically overslept this morning because I was just so damn tired! I had to work an auction and then stupidly headed back to the Grove because I had forgotten to pick up gift wrap material at Coach when I was there. Doh! It literally took me one hour to enter the parking structure, find a parking space, go to Coach & pick up the stuff (which was ready and waiting), turn around and go back up the parking structure to my car (on the roof) and get out of the structure. I estimate that 40 of the 60 minutes I was there involved being in the car in the parking structure. What misery.

Anyway, after getting home, Yoshi and I immediately left the house again to go to the office because I’m still not done with holiday cards and wanted to make a dent in it (plus Yoshi was good enough to put the gifts we bought from Coach together so they’d be ready to ship in the morning). We were there for about 3 hours until we needed to head home because we have a couple of houseguests who are spending the night tonight and tomorrow.

After getting them settled, I decided to sit down and blog.

That is basically my whole weekend and you will notice that in everything that happened, I didn’t have any time to:
-Clean my desk
-Work on my personal holiday cards
-Blog (that much)
-Cook
-Clean anything
-Do any chores
-Take care of any paperwork
-Watch TV for any extended period

I’m getting hungry so I think I’ll eat now (I ordered food about 3 hours ago, but I didn’t have time to eat).

I don’t know how I’m supposed to be able to get any real work done this month. Seriously.

It wasn’t so bad at the Holiday Card Sweatshop yesterday…

First, BossGuy bought us lunch so we could eat while we worked to get the first few hundred cards out.

Then he called it quits early for us because he had paid for a Mocha Kiss Coffee Cart to come to the office to provide special coffee drinks to the entire floor. (I stilled stayed to the end of the day to catch up on non-Holiday card related work.)

I was fortunate enough to get an invitation to the same holiday party he was invited to Friday night at the Geisha House, so Yoshi and I ran into him there. I think he felt so bad for making me (and by way of me, Yoshi Elf) work in his Holiday Card Sweatshop that he invited us to join him and his lady for dinner.

We ended up at Chaya in Beverly Hills where Michelle Yeoh was having dinner 3 tables over… she looked HOT! (From the Geisha House to a star of Memoirs of a Geisha… What is this? Geisha Night?)

chayabh.jpgThe food was YUMMY! For appetizers, we had the Tuna Tuna Tuna (Spicy Tuna Roll, Tuna Sashimi and Tuna Tataki), Banzai Roll (Soft Shell Crab, Kaiware & Cucumber, wrapped with Masago, served with Spicy Ponzu & Wasabi Mayonnaise), Escargot Cocotte with Chopped Mushrooms, Pan-Sautéed Sonoma Foie Gras with Caramelized Fuji Apple Tart, and Yoshi and I split an Organic Hearts of Romaine Salad with Meyer Lemon & Fresh Herb Vinaigrette Toasted Pecans & Shaved Parmesan.

I ordered the Seared Blue Fin Tuna (not on the menu, but it was on top of a fancy potato pancake, with deep-fried shiitake mushrooms, shrimp, and a bed of veggies… can’t remember what kind). Yoshi ordered the Miso-Marinated White Sea Bass in Tamari Yuzu Sauce Japanese Eggplant & Broccolini.

Then we all shared 3 desserts… Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie with Strawberry Sorbet, Banana Banana Banana (Warm Banana Tart & Banana Ice Cream whipped with Mixed Berries, topped with a Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana), and the Flourless Rich Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramelized Banana, Caramel Sauce and Toasted Almonds.

Then we waddled home and crashed out from food coma.

“I think something exploded here.”

(You think *ANYONE* would believe that’s that reason my desk looks like this?)

Hi, my name is jozjozjoz…

…and I work in a Holiday Card Sweatshop.

You can just call me “Holiday Card Elf Joz” and my helper is “Labelling Elf Yoshi.”

But it’s not all bad.

Tonight the BossGuy took us out to dinner at Sterling Steakhouse.

So really, not too bad… I mean, for a Holiday Card Sweatshop, that is.

Let’s pretend like I have time to maintain this blog…

…and we can call this blog #1.

If I had time to maintain blog #2, I would call it “Waiting With Joz” and I would blog about all the people who are standing in line with me while I wait for stuff.

I would have blogged two days ago about waiting at Aroma Coffee & Tea Co (on Tujunga) and turning around to see Morgan Fairchild waiting to order lunch. Then someone (in the biz) recognized her from across the room and started a conversation about something, but she thought he was talking about “But Can They Sing?”. And he wasn’t. So she said, “Oops. Scratch everything I just said, I was talking about something else.” And then she ordered her food and continued (started over?) the conversation at his table until her food was ready and she was going to be seated elsewhere. She was wearing black (yoga-type pants) so I guess even when she’s wearing “casual” clothes, she looks great. And by great I mean young and skinny.

And if I had a blog called “Waiting With Joz,” today’s entry would be about how Laura Cerón (aka Nurse Chuny Marquez on ER) was in line behind me at the Hollywood Post Office (at Wilcox and Selma). She was wearing a white poofy (snow?) jacket with deep red boots that went up to her knees. She kept sneezing, so she might have been sick, but she looked great, too. (In this case, I don’t mean just young and skinny. Laura looked well put together as well, despite the sneezing.)

Aside from the occasional celebrity waiting in line, I would also blog about the ordinary crazy folk waiting in line. Two guys ahead of me at the post office today, a guy stood in line eating a sandwich while waiting his turn. Then when he got up to the counter, he laid his sandwich on the counter next to him before he shoved his mail under the bulletproof glass to the postal clerk behind the desk. It was almost 4:30 and he was eating while standing in line at the post office. I wonder if that was a very late lunch or an early dinner?

Help.

I need an expert in Outlook to help me generate mailing labels from my Outlook contact list.

I need help (someone to walk me through the process); please don’t say “mail merge.”

Sheesh.

Too much happening.

Oh geez.

It’s 1:30, I haven’t slept and I’m already behind in the work that’s coming up this week.

(I was supposed to work on Sunday to catch up on some work, but I wasn’t feeling well so I stayed home. I’m going to pay for it this week.)

Arrgh!

I need more weekend,

dammit!

More weekend, I say!

My mental calendar works just fine!

And the water bottle is covered!

Don’t mess with me today!

Dear You,

I’ve got my plate full and I was behind in my work from the moment I walked through the door this morning.

Don’t ask me to do any favors for you unless you want me to rip your head off.

Thanks in advance,
Me

As a follow-up to Yoshi’s post about Pat Morita…

…here’s an excerpt of a truly sweet and touching tribute to “Uncle Nori” written by George Takei

A Tribute to Pat Morita
by George Takei

Pat Morita gave me a pain in my sides. His jokes were non-stop and relentless. I would be laughing, helpless and in pain. But he was merciless. His gags kept coming like machine-gun bullets. He would “slay” me with his jokes. Wherever we were, at dinner in a Las Vegas restaurant, at a party in Los Angeles, a fund-raiser for a non-profit institution, Pat kept me in pained laughter.

Now there is a different pain. It is the ache of parting. Pat is gone. He passed in Las Vegas of natural causes. Yet, it seems unnatural for Pat not to be bringing us joy and laughter. He was always so vibrant, so funny, and so alive. Noriyuki Pat Morita was a beloved friend and an extraordinary man. [full article]

And a tribute in a totally different vein, Mikey’s tribute to Pat Morita is in the form of a musical tribute of Karate Kid songs. Rawk!

And I missed him…

…he was in my office and I missed him.

George Takei was in my office and I missed him.

For the sake of me having a job, this is probably a good thing since my inner fan girl would have come out and then I would have made a raving fool of myself and then maybe not had a job after that.

But I missed him.

I like how quickly I got a phone call with this tidbit (seconds after he stepped into the elevator to leave the building. Hmmmm, I wonder why my “operatives” didn’t tell me when he arrived?)

Anyway, I missed him.

And that’s why there’s no blog post about how jozjozjoz made an idiot of herself at work with George Takei.

(Don’t tell anyone I said so, but I think he’s stalking me.)

How is it December already?

Where did the year go?

Sheesh!
