brain barf… yum!
Because I’m too busy (and lazy) to come up with anything for my blog today about Halloween, I thought I’d share a story from last year:
Trick-or-Treat Goodies (our way)
Oh yeah… over the weekend, I hard boiled (but immediately peeled approximately 5 dozen eggs) for some deviled eggs/egg salad.
Unfortunately, since I peeled the eggs right away, there was no time to make my Halloween eggs.
Maybe I’ll buy more eggs tonight???
As you may have noticed, there are a few days worth of content missing from my site from the Sheryl Swoopes and George Takei posts, as well as the post with my whining about my flu shot (my arm is still sore).
Thanks to the opposite-of-stellar servers at ipowerweb that jozjozjoz.com was previously hosted on, my data from October 26-October 29 was lost and unrecoverable.
Thanks to the opposite-of-helpful tech support people at ipowerweb, I was told that my data WAS recoverable and would be done “shortly.” I was told the same thing over and over again from the time I left work on Friday to Sunday morning at 1am. I spent over 6-7 hours on the phone or Live Chat with ipower being told the same thing “our senior techinicians are aware of the problem and it will be resolved shortly.” What a crock of shit.
I finally, at around 2am on Sunday morning, I spoke to the Lead Tech Support guy on duty and he was the first person to tell me, “Sorry, the latest backup we have of your site was on Wednesday and we can’t recover anything else beyond that.”
I got pissed and said that the server that jozjozjoz.com was hosted on was a piece of poopy and that stuff is always happening to my site. And they needed to change me to another server ASAP. By the time I woke up Sunday morning, my site had been transferred and if you visited yesterday you may have noticed that they were waiting for the domain to point to the new server.
Anyway, sorry if you came looking for something that no longer exists. Sorry to professoreric who tried to make a post and found that the blog was doody. Sorry to the people who made comments that are now lost for eternity.
The good news is that jozjozjoz.com is hosted on a server that is supposedly more stable than the old one.
The bad news is that my host is still ipowerweb, but I will seek to change that when my account is up for renewal next year.
Until then, let’s have some fun here and try to pretend like ipowerweb doesn’t suck. Thankyouverymuchbyebye.

…the L.A.’s Parking Enforcement sucks, but I’ve never heard of them ticketing a car with a dead guy in it. (I could be wrong about that, though.)
SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australian authorities have apologized to the family of an elderly man who was given a parking ticket while he lay dead in his car in a suburban shopping center.
The 71-year-old man, known to be seriously ill, went missing nine days ago and his body was found in his car in a shopping mall car park in a Melbourne suburb, police said.
A parking ticket had been placed on the car the day before his body was found.[full story]

I got the following scoop from J-X today:
One of our employees was stuck in an elevator for an hour this morning. He heard glass and metal break above his head. The elevator dropped from the 12th to the 10th floor. He had to climb through the ceiling and jump across a 3-foot gap to the neighboring elevator. He is currently working at his desk.
J-X is a very reliable source and especially since the elevators went out multiple times this week during power outages, I am inclined to believe this story.
Eeek.

Back in June, I reported the re-launch of Fresca this fall.
Well, I’ve been seeing the billboards and I’ve seen their new fun & fuzzy Fresca site (can you believe they didn’t have a website until the re-launch)… but I need to go and buy all three flavors of Fresca in their new cans!!!
They still have their original sparkling citrus flavor, but they also have sparking black cherry citrus, and sparkling peach citrus. I just hope they are as yummy as they sound! And they are all sugar free… woot!
They have “Fresca events” through this weekend in L.A… I already sent an email asking where.
I guess it’s time to hit to grocery store this weekend… I wonder if I should keep any of the “old” Fresca cans (the one they had from 1995-2005) around as souvenirs or something?
Nah… I’ll just drink them!

The University of Southern California now says the granddaughter of Bud Walton is no longer a graduate of that school. Actually, I have many pieces of pita.
We are always ordering from Al Wazir Chicken and they load us down with tons of pita.
I try to leave it around the office for someone else to take, but so many of us order from there, it usually goes to waste.
Right now, we have 3 bags of it sitting on a shelf in our fridge.
What should I do with all this pita?
I was thinking Pita Frisbees might be fun, but it’s kind of a crumby idea.

We just lost power for a second or two… all the power flickered on and off.
Had to wait for all my equipment (computer, printer, etc) to reboot. Not a big deal, but if I had been in the middle of my 800 page print-out I was about to start, I would have been livid.
I wonder if we’re going to have intermittent power problems today… it looked like power went down at least a couple of times over the weekend.
UPDATE: I just got a call from the receptionist so I could let everyone on my floor know that all the elevators in the building are out. Greeeaaaat…
UPDATE AGAIN: It’s all good. The elevator outage was very temporary. Although if the power goes out again, they’ll probably go out again. Guess who’s taking the stairs today?
A World Series title in So Cal is not to be.
