A happy day for the Allens

Long Beach Woman’s Surprise Baby Is Ready To Go Home

Mother Gave Birth Hours After Discovering Pregnancy

Four months ago, Annice Allen of Long Beach, 37, went to hospital thinking she was having severe menstrual cramps.

Three hours later, she found out she was 23 to 24 weeks pregnant and gave birth to a 1-pound, 4-ounce girl she named Jimice. The baby was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.

Jimice now weighs 5 pounds, 2 ounces and is going home.

Prior to Jimice’s birth, Allen said she and her husband had tried to have children but had given up after two miscarriages.

EQUITY PUTTING CASH INTO ACTION

COLOGNE, Germany — German media fund Equity Pictures is sinking its money into the action genre, investing $70 million in a new slate of productions that includes titles toplined by action veterans Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel and Sylvester Stallone (HR 8/4). Cash from Equity’s fund will help bankroll such upcoming features as the Reeves starrer “The Night Watchman,” based on the James Ellroy best-seller about a racist serial killer; “The Retriever,” which features Diesel as a one-man army fighting to save the world from nuclear apocalypse; and “Rambo IV,” in which Stallone returns to his most famous action role.

Why am I so exhausted?

Sheesh!

Oh have mercy…

I’d seen the billboards, but I was hoping it wasn’t true…

I read in today’s Broadcasting & Cable a story with the following headline: GOING ALL OUT IN L.A.: BUENA VISTA TOUTS “DANZA” UPGRADE

Evidently, The Tony Danza Show will be hitting the L.A. market this fall at 9am on KCAL. It’s kind of a “test” in that the show has to survive in this market in order to survive at all.

Eek.

Mall Meltdown (almost)

Yesterday, Yoshi was kind enough to accompany me to the mall. We went to South Coast Plaza (in OC) because it’s the biggest mall around with the best selection. I have to find something dressy enough for a wedding, but “casual” enough to wear to a wedding in Maui. This is harder than you might think.

And in case I haven’t mentioned it, I hate shopping for clothes.

I was in the first store and almost had a meltdown within the first 5 minutes because they already had their fall lines out and there was nothing appropriate for a summer wedding there. Yoshi looked at me and said, “We’ve been here for five minutes. Keep it together.” Thank goodness, because I was about to lose it.

I found a shirt that I liked and a pair of pants, but neither of them were appropriate for a wedding, so we headed over to Macy’s (after a brief pit stop at the GAP for Yoshi). I had slightly more luck at Macy’s, but only slightly. I have never really been able to wear most clothes off the rack (everything fits funny on me), so I don’t know what I was hoping for… maybe a divine miracle that SOMETHING would magically fit AND be appropriate for a Maui wedding?

Anyway, I found two skirts that I could wear to the wedding (one of them is like 4 sizes too big, but I’m willing to take the chance of it falling off of me… or maybe I will pin the skirt to my top?). Now I’ve got to find a top to go with one of these skirts.

Sigh.

This is so hard.

After Macy’s we had a late lunch at the Back Bay Rowing Club. It was getting late and we were on a strict time table because (YAY!) my Bro was coming in on a flight to LAX from Taiwan. We finished eating and headed toward Robinson’s-May to see if I could find a top (nope). I got a few more things there (unmentionables, so I won’t mention them specifically).

We left the mall with half a wedding outfit (no, going topless is NOT an option!). So it means I’ll probably have to brave the malls again next weekend if something doesn’t turn up in my closet.

On the bright side, I also purchased a new purse that I love, which will replace my current day-to-day purse (I had a small accident with a not-so-shut bottle of Diet Snapple that overturned in my purse on Friday).

We headed back toward LAX, stopping at Costco to get gas. Our timing was almost impeccable. My brother said that he’d reached the curb only 3 minutes before we got there with the car. (This was very lucky on our part, because we left a LOT later than we were supposed to. I got a little distracted in the purse/handbag section. It turned out they were delayed from deboarding the plane because a kid had a fever and they wouldn’t let anyone off until the medics got into the plane. But when Bro was first telling Yoshi what happened we thought he said “seizure.” Oh, and Bro was delayed at baggage claim and customs for a long time, so it bought us time to get gas and get there.) We drove all the way back to the OC to drop Bro off at home. I had a few things to take care of there, so we hung out there for a while. By this time, it was 9:30 at night and we got a couple of burgers at the drive-thru at Carl’s Jr and pulled over on the side of the road to watch the fireworks at Disneyland while we ate.

After that, we got back on the road and headed back to L.A. In the last 10 hours, we’d driven a couple hundred miles or so and traversed the 10, 5, 710, 405, 105, 605, 91, and the 101 all in one day.

Whew. What a Saturday.

Thanks to Yoshi for being such a trooper and putting up with me all day.

Friday was my Doctor Day

I know this is stupid, but I haven’t taken any time off of work in the last 7 months to go to a single doctor’s appointment, even though I really should have. I took the opportunity of my boss being out on Friday to go to the dentist and eye doctor (yes, I told Bossguy where I was going).

So even though I had a 10am dentist appointment, I reported into work and took care of a few things before going for my exam and cleaning. Since I was trying out a new dentist, I had to get all new x-rays done and today, I had my first digital x-rays taken. It uses 1/5 of the radiation as the regular x-rays and the technician can see immediately what was taken and if something needs to be redone. The images are sent directly to the computer, which loads it into a program where they keep your chart electronically.

What was really cool was that there was an additional adjustable plasma screen at the foot of the chair which could play regular TV or the computer screen. The dentist examined the x-rays next to me on that screen, showing me exactly was he was looking at, etc.

Here is a blurry picture I snapped of the screen while I was in the dentist chair. I don’t really want people to be able to examine my dental x-rays in too much detail online, but you can see what the screen looks like. Pretty cool. (No cavities, no major problems with my teeth.)

After the exam, I had a cleaning (scrape, scrape, ack!) and I left the dentist’s office with a bag of dental swag (toothbrushes, toopaste, tongue scraper, 2 kinds of mouth wash, a gum stimulator thingybobber, floss, etc) and went directly to pick up Yoshi as we had back-to-back appointments with the eye doctor on the other side of town.

The eye exam went smoothly for me. My vision is slightly worse since my last exam (2 years ago), so my prescription for my glasses needed to be bumped up a little. My the prescription for my contacts (thankfully) are still good, so I am grateful for that. I took a picture of the eye exam thingy (what’s this thing called, Answer Man?). I blurred out the numbers that showed how bad my vision is on the side, but I guess anyone who knew what they were doing could look at this picture and figure out my prescription.

After Yoshi’s exam was done, it was about 2pm and we headed over to La Dijonaise to have lunch (I hadn’t had anything to eat all day). I had the Poulet Roti (Roasted half chicken and fries, but I only ate two fries). Yoshi had the “Yoshi Usual,” turkey and cheddar sandwich made with lettuce, tomatoes, Dijon mustard, and marinated red onions on a French baguette. We were tempted by the pastries in the display, but we were good and left without any cookies, muffins, croissants, or eclairs (even though we really wanted some).

I had intended to go back to the office, but after I checked voicemail and email remotely, I realized there was no need. After checking in with Bossguy and taking care of a few things from home, it was already 5pm, and I was done for the day.

I was really dragging by this time because after my night of insomnia, I was exhausted. I did take a short nap and Yoshi woke me up so I could eat something. Then we stayed home and watched The Last Samurai on DVD.

Anyway, I’m done blogging so I have to get some sleep. I’m actually tired, so I’m looking forward to a good night’s rest.

ugh

tired.

need nap now.

So I did get some sleep…

I got approx three whole hours.

Now I’m at the office, bleary-eyed and yawning.

Great.

Yawn.

Almost 5am.

I’m still up. I hate insomnia.

The good news is that I’m yawning. Maybe I’ll get in a nap before I have to head off the the office.

Sheesh.

Arrrghy Arrrghy Arrrghhhhhhhhhhh…

It’s 3:30am and I’m still wide awake.

THIS SUCKS!

I spent the last hour and a half playing games, surfing online, packaging up a few things to mail, and then shopping at the USPS.com website (I bought $200 in postage… ooops, I probably shouldn’t be allowed to shop when I can’t sleep).

I don’t know what I have to do to get myself some shut eye…

Arrrgh.

It’s 2am and I’m wide-awake.

This sucks. I have a ton to tomorrow (er… later today, that is).

It’s not like I’m tired, because I definitely was a few hours ago when I fell asleep in front of the TV.

Grrrrrrr…

Maybe I’ll just kill time and play some Diner Dash or something…

“I’m not a cop, but I play one in the Explorer Scouts…”

So if you’ve been pulled over by a youngish-looking cop in the El Monte area lately, it may have been a Scout.

Teen Explorer Scouts Allegedly Pose As Cops, Stop Drivers

Police Arrest Both Boys

EL MONTE, Calif. — A 15-year-old boy from La Puente and a 17-year-old boy from El Monte were arrested on suspicion of impersonating police officers, authorities said Tuesday.

Both boys were members of the El Monte police department’s Explorer Progam, which is designed to give young people the chance to learn more about becoming a police officer, NBC4 reported.

But Explorer Scouts are not allowed to act like police officers.

El Monte police received a report Thursday from a motorist who said he believed he had been stopped by an individual posing as a law enforcement officer, said Christopher Cano, a detective with the El Monte Police Department.

The motorist reported the suspect vehicle had emergency lights with some type of siren system, Cano said. The motorist initially thought he was being stopped by an undercover surveillance vehicle.

However, when the suspect approached the motorist, the motorist realized the suspect was too young to be a police officer. [full story]

Anyone with additional information on the case was asked to call Cano at (562) 580-2142.
