So Yoshi and I drove into Vegas with just enough time to settle into our room at the Bellagio (we’re in their new Spa Tower, overlooking the 15/Rio) before heading over to the Hard Rock Hotel to join in a large (23+) dinner/birthday party at Nobu (which began at 9:15).
First of all, everything I tasted at dinner was absolutely amazing. Every morsel of food was of the highest quality and, believe it or not, it actually lived up to the Matsuhisa hype. I don’t even know how many courses of food they had prepared because somewhere around midnight we had to tell the wait staff to stop bringing food out and skip to dessert. I was told that we hadn’t even gotten to the sushi yet. Sheesh! And I know that they special-ordered the courses in advance because some of the things we had don’t even show up on the menu. At the end of this post, I’m going to recreate as much of the menu as I can remember, just so I can look back at it and marvel.
Sometime past midnight, we headed over to the Mandalay Bay to the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. We were in the Buddha Room, which was a nice change of scenery from the really loud restaurant at Nobu and the really loud bar area of HOB. By this time, more than half of the party had dropped off and the sushi coma was setting in. One bottle of Grey Goose (shared among the group of us) and many Red Bulls later, Yoshi and I were (surprisingly) two of the Final Four left standing (well, kind of standing… more like sinking into the cushy couch). I didn’t have much to drink (I was driving), but everyone else seemed pretty damn happy.
Somewhere past 4am, we rolled back into the Bellagio, got ready for bed, and crashed out. I can’t believe we didn’t poop out sooner!
Some of the stuff we ate at Nobu last night:
(The prices below are copied off the Myriad Restaurant Group website for Nobu, but I don’t believe they are accurate. I’m pretty sure that the actual prices were much higher… eek!)
Edamame
Japanese Peppers (I didn’t have any of this)
Yellowtail Tartar topped with Caviar 21.00
Monkfish (Ankimo!) Pate with Caviar 17.00
Ceviche South American Style with Fresh Lobster 12.00
Sashimi Salad (fresh tuna filet and rock crab) with Matsuhisa Dressing 18.00
Sea Urchin Tempura 10.00
Shiitake Tempura 2.00
Okra Tempura
Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce 16.00
Kobe Beef Tataki Sashimi with Ponzu Sauce (not on the menu!)
Broiled Black Cod with Miso 17.00
Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce (with grilled veggies) 22.00
Tenderloin of Beef with Teriyaki Sauce (with grilled veggies) 25.50
Cold Nobu Label Sake
Large Dessert Platters (with almost everything from their dessert menu)
I also didn’t have any oyster shooters, but I saw at least 3 rounds go by. My favorite dish from last night was either the Broiled Black Cod or the Kobe Beef Tataki, although I might have thought differently had we had any kind of room for sushi/sashimi. (That yellowtail tartar was yumyum!) I am also pretty sure there was more stuff I tried last night, but this is all I can remember.
