Exhausted

Just got back to the hotel room from Light. It is loud and crowded, but pretty fun. I just had to get back to the room. There was no damn way I was going to make it to Drai’s after Light, though. I wonder who will?

Dinner tonight was at Piero’s. Food was incredible. Again, there was too much of it. And there was great dessert.

What I need now is a shower and sleep. So that’s what I’m going to do.

Tired

Need nap. Now.

Still recovering from last night

So Yoshi and I drove into Vegas with just enough time to settle into our room at the Bellagio (we’re in their new Spa Tower, overlooking the 15/Rio) before heading over to the Hard Rock Hotel to join in a large (23+) dinner/birthday party at Nobu (which began at 9:15).

First of all, everything I tasted at dinner was absolutely amazing. Every morsel of food was of the highest quality and, believe it or not, it actually lived up to the Matsuhisa hype. I don’t even know how many courses of food they had prepared because somewhere around midnight we had to tell the wait staff to stop bringing food out and skip to dessert. I was told that we hadn’t even gotten to the sushi yet. Sheesh! And I know that they special-ordered the courses in advance because some of the things we had don’t even show up on the menu. At the end of this post, I’m going to recreate as much of the menu as I can remember, just so I can look back at it and marvel.

Sometime past midnight, we headed over to the Mandalay Bay to the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. We were in the Buddha Room, which was a nice change of scenery from the really loud restaurant at Nobu and the really loud bar area of HOB. By this time, more than half of the party had dropped off and the sushi coma was setting in. One bottle of Grey Goose (shared among the group of us) and many Red Bulls later, Yoshi and I were (surprisingly) two of the Final Four left standing (well, kind of standing… more like sinking into the cushy couch). I didn’t have much to drink (I was driving), but everyone else seemed pretty damn happy.

Somewhere past 4am, we rolled back into the Bellagio, got ready for bed, and crashed out. I can’t believe we didn’t poop out sooner!

Some of the stuff we ate at Nobu last night:
(The prices below are copied off the Myriad Restaurant Group website for Nobu, but I don’t believe they are accurate. I’m pretty sure that the actual prices were much higher… eek!)

Edamame
Japanese Peppers (I didn’t have any of this)
Yellowtail Tartar topped with Caviar 21.00
Monkfish (Ankimo!) Pate with Caviar 17.00
Ceviche South American Style with Fresh Lobster 12.00
Sashimi Salad (fresh tuna filet and rock crab) with Matsuhisa Dressing 18.00
Sea Urchin Tempura 10.00
Shiitake Tempura 2.00
Okra Tempura
Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce 16.00
Kobe Beef Tataki Sashimi with Ponzu Sauce (not on the menu!)
Broiled Black Cod with Miso 17.00
Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce (with grilled veggies) 22.00
Tenderloin of Beef with Teriyaki Sauce (with grilled veggies) 25.50
Cold Nobu Label Sake
Large Dessert Platters (with almost everything from their dessert menu)

I also didn’t have any oyster shooters, but I saw at least 3 rounds go by. My favorite dish from last night was either the Broiled Black Cod or the Kobe Beef Tataki, although I might have thought differently had we had any kind of room for sushi/sashimi. (That yellowtail tartar was yumyum!) I am also pretty sure there was more stuff I tried last night, but this is all I can remember.

Stuck in Friday traffic (to Vegas)

Doh. Thank goodness Yoshi is driving though.

UPDATE: I drove from Barstow to Vegas.

It’s great to have friends in high other places!

Hee hee!

stkyrice just called me and said: Joz I just bought you SEVEN of those Happy Meal toys and I didn’t even have to buy the food!

Hee hee!

SEVEN! Wheeeeee!

I had to hand the phone to Yoshi because I was doing a little happy dance while stkyrice was was telling Yoshi he did.

Thank you stkyrice & aiyahh!

Hee hee!

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach.

I started this post at 1pm and didn’t have a chance to continue until now.

Thanks to J-X who was nice enough to let me know there was food downstairs because otherwise I’d still be sitting here at my desk complaining about how hungry I am.

Funny, I didn’t get a Happy Meal (toy) yesterday or today. I thought that Happy Meals would be all I’d be eating through May 12.

Thank god (who is NOT J-X!) for small blessings.

Too late for justice.

I saw this article today about how they’re going to exhume Emmett Till’s body for an autopsy to confirm the cause of his death. I’m no coroner, but I can tell you how he died: HATE.

Whenever I hear of Emmett Till’s story, I think of the case of Vincent Chin, who was violently killed less than a week before his wedding. His murderers, who admitted to beating him to death with a baseball bat, were handed a verdict of a $3,000 fine, $780 in court fees, and three years probation for each of the men.

If you don’t know either of these stories, take a few minutes to read the links above.

I’m hungry…

I wonder if someone will get me my Happy Meal and then some REAL FOOD from someplace else?

Losing the ability to tpye type…

Today on IM:

[16:44] co-worker: gaaaaaaaaaah!
[16:45] joz: Yeah, I know what you mean
[16:45] co-worker: are we done yet???
[16:45] co-worker: puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze??!!
[16:48] joz: I know
[16:48] joz: I’m just waiting now
[16:48] joz: I didn’t get to eat my friend foods while it was hot
[16:48] joz: Now I have a small bag of soggy fries
[16:48] joz: blah
[16:48] joz: I am going to take it home and put them in the toaster over
[16:48] joz: oven
[16:49] joz: My “fried foods” I mean
[16:49] joz: Damn, why is typing so darn hard?
[16:49] co-worker: ok……..we’ve BOTH lost our minds!!! bwahahahahaha!!
[16:49] joz: Although friend foods can be my friends
[16:49] joz: I mean
[16:49] joz: Arrrrgh
[16:49] joz: I give up

So I can’t type. Oh well. On the bright side, I made my co-worker laugh until she snorted.

The reason why I’ll be eating Happy Meals from now until May 12

Border CollieI admit it! I want the toy in the Happy Meal!

They have little plush toys of “The Dog” and “The Cat!

I’m usually not a sucker for the toys in Happy Meal, but I want to collect all the dogs! If I could just buy the toys and not get crappy McD’s “food,” I would.

Right now I have a Westie and a Husky. I think I’ll keep them in their original plastic for now.

Um. Duh.

Asians poorly represented on TV

Because it’s my job to gross you out…

I present… a link to the frozen custard finger story.

Enjoy.

“Not looks like, IS!”

$10 to anyone who knows what that quote is in reference to. Not counting Yoshi or anyone else who was there.

P.S. - This is not intended to be a quote from Buffy.

Joz = Rude to Parents

Sheesh, what the heck is wrong with me?

The other day I was rude to my mom when she called me from Taiwan. Just now I was rude to my dad on the phone when he was only trying to encourage me.

What did I just take? My crabby pill? Geez…
