No ordinary spider

It was no ordinary spider that bit me. Two days later, the bumps are more swollen and painful (though less itchy, yay!), my eye takes to twitching on occasion, the gland on the right side of my face is swollen and my head is generally in pain.

Then again, the spider seems to have bitten me at least 4, if not 5 times. The concensus seems to be that the spider toxins are draining into the gland on the right side of my head & my body is detoxing right now.

The good news is that it wasn’t a black widow. Otherwise I’d be dead by now. The other good news is that I have had no sign of fever or chills.

The bad news (where Yoshi is concerned) is, we’re not completely sure WHAT the hell bit me and that I’m generally being a whiny wimp.

Oh and the other bad news is that you can now officially see the red spots on my forehead from across the room. This has been confirmed by numerous folks who were staring at it from afar.

The other bad news is that Yoshi thinks that the bites will leave scars… on my forehead!

*cries*

I HATE scars on my body, but especially my face.

P.S. - I already have one of those ultrasonic doohickeys, right next to my side of the bed. A lot of good it did me.

If you start shooting web from your wrists and being able to climb walls and stuff, well, that’s not such a bad trade, really. Other than that, I hope this passes without lingering effect.

geez…at least you actually have to go through spider bites, and relatively painful ones at that…yoshi freaks out over frickin’ mold!

    i think you’re not being a whiny wimp…much. :)

Ick. If you’re still feeling it in a couple days, you should probably have it checked out. *shudder* I’ve had a couple of really bad spider bites.

It could have been black widows (though probably not likely), they don’t always kill, sometimes just make you sick, sometimes not. I have a friend that got bit on the toe by one and couldn’t wear a shoe for about 2 or 3 weeks becuase of the swelling.

Anyway, hope you feel better soon.

Hey Joz,, sorry to hear you’re suffering! Glad you ruled out black widows — but not because you’d be dead by now (unless you’re prone to anaphylaxis). While the female BW (male BWs are pretty much harmless) is generally considered the most venomous spider in North America, it’s usually not fatal to adults. Even though its venom is up to 15 times as toxic as that of certain species of rattlesnakes, the tiny amount delivered rarely proves deadly to people beyond their teens.

There’s a chance with the swelling and other symptoms you got hit by something I’ve heard called the “aggressive house spider” (not a brown recluse). If you haven’t already, you should get yourself to a doctor.

Double ouch. I’d wager some diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is what you need, just to keep the histamine reaction in check.

Yikes! Did you go to the doctor to get their advice? (My apologies if I missed that in a previous mention…)

Yuck! I get critter bites all the time over here in HI. They can hurt like hell. My mom got bit by something and her dumbass took so long to get to the doctor that it’d turned into a strep infectin — in her leg. hope you feel better soon.
