REALITY GOES TO THE DOGS ON WHO GETS THE DOG?

PRODUCERS OF NEW ANIMAL PLANET SERIES CONDUCTING SEARCH FOR
FAMILIES IN LOS ANGELES AREA WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW PET

Los Angeles - Turning the tables on humans who always pick their pets, Who Gets the Dog? is a one-hour reality program in which the dogs decide where and with whom they want to live. Each week, one lucky dog packs his or her bags and journeys to three different homes in search of a new family.

The dogs, from local animal shelters in the Los Angeles area, spend 24 hours in each home. After playing and participating in various activities, each dog with the help of three pet experts, ultimately decides which family to call its own

Animal Planet and LMNO Productions developed WHO GETS THE DOG? with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to pre-approve families for dog adoption and ensure the dogs’ experiences result in finding a happy home. The organizations created a questionnaire for the show’s potential dog owners modeled after animal shelter adoption applications and HSUS recommended activities to acquaint the dogs with the families.

If you or a family you know is looking for a pet and would like to appear on a national television show, please log on to www.whogetsthedog.com. Contestants can also call the Who Gets the Dog? hotline at 888 751-8088.

    Joz,

Thanks for the tip! Maybe I should move to the land of the liberals, er, LA and make my search for new doggies easier!!

Just when you thought reality TV couldn’t get any lower…

Actually, it might even be more fun with dogs on it. Coming up next: gerbils.

The money spent on this stupid show could be better spent on pet sterilization and educating the public on humane animal treatment and reponsibility. I hope the public wakes up and shuts off their tube.

I don’t feel a tv show like this is a good idea at all. We need to take into consideration, that although a pet may be getting a chance to be taken out of a shelter and placed into a home, that it is being shuffled around from family to family first.

I’ve worked the shelters, the conditions they have to live in are awful even if it is a decent shelter. Being caged, cage area’s being sprayed down early mornings getting the dogs wet even on cold days, being adopted just to be brought back because it chewed, jumped up on, barked etc and then having to go through the whole process again in hopes that it finds a home rather than being put to sleep in the end of it all. Dogs, cats and other animals suffer just as we do, they just can’t tell us about it. To have a show that takes a dog from home to home for the plain enjoyment of a tv show is wrong. I agree with the other person, lets take that money which is to be used toward making the show and put it to better use on educating people, spaying and neutering and improving shelters and non-profit organizations that try to help these animals.

Everyone, please think twice before doing a show. I love animal planet, but up until now it has been about learning and helping animals to the fullest. I’d like to see that continue.

I think you people really should think about spending less time “worrying” about how the dog will feel, and a little more time DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. How do you think that dog will feel if he’s DEAD? The other option is killing him…so, let’s see….if I had my choice…24 hours with three different families that will play with me, love me and learn stupid tricks to keep me….or hmmmmmm DIE, well…you guys might be a little slow, I would rather be on the show. So next time you are typing at your computer, think! How many dogs lives have you saved by typing? the dogs REALLY DON’T want you to speak for them . THANKS
