So here is a poem that a friend shared with me that made me really happy today. Hope i don’t get a cease and desist for republishing someone’s works… enjoy. -the prof.

From Blossoms

From blossoms comes
this brown paper bag of peaches
we bought from the boy
at the bend in the road where we turned toward
signs painted Peaches.

From laden boughs, from hands,
from sweet fellowship in the bins,
comes nectar at the roadside, succulent
peaches we devour, dusty skin and all,
comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat.

O, to take what we love inside,
to carry within us an orchard, to eat
not only the skin, but the shade,
not only the sugar, but the days, to hold
the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into
the round jubilance of peach.

There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the background; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

The search begins…

… so no luck yet.

We spent the day Sunday looking at places all over town. We are looking at everything at this point.

The first one was practically under the 405 freeway. It was noisy from the traffic and best of all, had caution tape around the entrance. Um, no…

Then we went to Costco to get gas ($2.09/gallon) and I dragged Yoshi to my Office #2 and we worked like mad. Yoshi got stuck moving crap around the office while I made as many calls as I could so we could spend the rest of the day looking at places.

After leaving the office, we headed over to look at a place in Loz Feliz… except that the L.A. Marathon was still happening and traffic was horrendous. We were almost late to the appointment we had. This place was not so bad, except it is slightly out of our price range and there was not a lot of storage… oh and there is no street parking.

Then, we headed out to look at a place in Eagle Rock. Yoshi forgot to mapquest the directions to this place, so we had to mapquest the low-tech way… with my old, grungy Thomas Guide (the first one I got after I moved to L.A. almost 10 years ago). Although the street had several nice houses on it, we only drove by the place we were supposed to see. Not only did the place look like it was about to fall down, but there was a U-Haul parked in the driveway and there were still people moving crap out. From what we could gather, someone had converted a garage into a “living space” and they were trying to pass it off as a “house.”

We then proceeded to get lost trying to get back to Hollywood from Eagle Rock. Without intending to, we ended up on the 5 (lucky we could choose between north and south… so we went towards L.A. instead of Sacramento). I desperately needed to empty my bladder, so we swung by Office #1 so we could check email and so I would stop doing the pee-pee dance in the car.

Upon checking email, we found that our friends had sent all kinds of leads for us to follow with. We called about 2 or 3 of them, drove by at least 3 or 4 more places and then headed toward home.

On the way home, we got a call from one of the places our friend recommended, so we detoured and went to see this place. We really, really loved this little house, but it was more house than we were prepared for & it was definitely out of our price range, even though they were willing to lower the rent considerably for us (due to the recommendation from our friend).

So after a whole day of looking we didn’t feel like we’d made any progress, except losing one day and becoming depressed at the fact that we aren’t going to find anything else anywhere near as nice as what we have for anywhere near what we are used to paying.

And you thought I was crazy BEFORE all this…
